Firebricks come in various grades based upon alumina content, the typical dimensions are 9 x 4 ½ x 2 ½”. In addition to straight bricks, arch and wedge brick can be supplied to turn a radius. Medium or high heat duty bricks are most often used in heating appliances. Firebricks are strong and hold up well to mechanical abuse. Complex jobs may require the expertise of a brick mason to install. Cutting and fitting requires a concrete or diamond bit saw. A quality refractory mortar should be used to meet building code. Firebricks exhibit high heat storage capacity but very little insulating value.
